Once again the auctions during Monterey car week staged a contest between American house Gooding & Company and Canadian RM Auctions to see who would obtain the highest sale price of the week. Gooding has come out on top in the last few years but even with the second part of their sale not until tonight, they are highly unlikely to beat the huge $27.5 million (including commission) achieved by RM for a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! last night.
The N.A.R.T, chassis 10709, is one of only ten such Spyders built, and this particular example had been in the same family ownership since new. The Owner Eddie Smith even turned down an offer from screen icon Steve McQueen to buy it when his own N.A.R.T. was badly damaged in an accident in Los Angeles. To add an extra spice to the auction the Smith family had decided to donate the proceeds from the auction to charity.
